Hei Star,

Don't know what book you are quoting from. "Sør-Aurdal", Vol. A, page
290 doesn't say anything about the Aamodt name being used. There is an
Aamodt farm not too far from Austegardslie, bnr. 14 in the Reinli
parish.

I don't find a record of Aslak emigrating in 1858 from either the Reinli
nor Bagn parishes.

Records for emigration of Knud Olson, son Knud, dtrs. Ingeborg and Siri
are as follows:

Knud Olson Østedgaardslien age 66
Knud Olson Dølven b. 12-4-1828 (Knud OLSON must be a mistake, although
he may have lived on Dølven before he left)
Ingeborg Knudsdtr, b. 7-19-1824
Sigrid Knudsdtr., b. 8-3-1839

I checked on Ingeborg and Siri. They were truly born in the Reinli
parish on the dates above.

I think it would be a great advantage to you to join the Valdres Samband
Lag. My help is free if you're a member. Only charge would be for a
chart I make out (just what I pay for them). photocopying for our files
for future reference and postage. Dues are $10 a year or $27 for three
years, payable by check made out to the Valdres Samband Lag and sent to
our secretary, Diane Lierhol, 13400 Pepperwood Circle, Minnetonka, MN
55305. We have a great amount of resources.

Norwegians were funny about names. It may be they thought, or someone
told them, that Austegårdslie was too long or too odd of a name in
America. So they just picked one that sounded good, that they were
familiar with, "Aamodt".

Be careful about other people's family books. You're right to
investigate further on the data. Just because something is in print,
doesn't make it so.

Med beste hilsen,

Betty
