In answer to your question about St. Joseph. St Joseph was a provider
for his family and the Sicilians or majority of them because of their
hard work and in some cases low income prayed to St. Joseph that they
might be a good provider for their families. In repayment and respect to
St. Joseph a feast in his honor was held for the blessings they
recieved. throughout the year. The St. Joseph table was an expression
of thanks for the blessings they recieved. I had the opportunity to be
invited as a youngster to be a participent and partake in the joys and
satisfaction of the abundance of the food at this table. The young
people who participated in the celebration were refered to as the
"Angelese" or angels. Prayers were offered for the blessings of God and
to St. Joseph for his intercession. Sicilians honored St. Joseph and it
was almost a ferverent type of reverence'. May the blessings of God be
with you always.
