Hi! I'm new to the Louisa Co., VA list.

Please help me figure out all of those Thomas
HARLOWs of similar ages in Louisa Co. VA. I am
trying to find parents for my Thomas.

My great, great-grandfather was Thomas Clark HARLOW.
Born: 1826-1828 Louisa Co., VA.
I don't know how long he was there, but by about 1849
his son William James HARLOW was born in Orange Co.,
VA.

He was in Augusta Co., VA in the 1850 census with his
wife, Caroline DAVIS. Children in that census were:
Lucy M. born <1842> VA
Sarah A. born <1844> VA
William James born <1846> VA
Mary J. born <1849> VA
Another child, not in the 1850 census was Thomas S.
born: <1851> VA.

I would like to estimate this marriage to Caroline DAVIS
to be before 1842, but I'm not sure that Thomas wasn't
married before. Lucy may be from another mother.

Something happened to this marriage & Caroline & children
were placed in different homes in Allegheny Co., VA in
the 1860 censuses.

In the meantime, Thomas went to Western VA, eventually
enlisted in the 1st WV Calvary, Co. C & served 2 tours
during the CW.

After the CW was over, Thomas settled in Washington &
Athens Counties in Ohio & lived next door to his son, William
Jame HARLOW in 1870 Athens Co. & 1880 Washington Co.

William James had finished serving in the Confederate Army,
so it's amazing that father & son, fighting on opposite sides,
made contact again.

Thomas married Martha Jane SKINNER in 1865 Washington
Co., OH. Something happened to that marriage (after 8
children) & Thomas took off in abt 1878.

Thomas married a 3rd time to Isabella C. "Belle" BURDETT
(nee MILAM) in 1887 Jackson Co., WV. Belle collected his
CW pension benefits.

Thomas died 4/20/1894 at the Soldiers & Sailors Home
in Montgmery Co., OH. He is buried in the Dayton Natl Cem.

Please, all HARLOW & DAVIS researchers, give me some
clues or tell me who yours are.

Best Wishes, Donna

VA surnames: DAVIS, HARLOW, SYBERT/or Sivert or Sibert
