Hi, belatedly -
I'm researching:

Edward SLATER, 1759-1837 New Kent Co., where I am dead-ended; his children
are James Madison Slater of
James City Co., Beverley Slater [wife Sarah/Sally Vaiden of NK] of same,
Sarah B. Slater [Mrs. Parke B.] Davis of KW Co., Nancy D. Slater [Mrs.
Dudley] Williams III of NK and ?, and perhaps another son, name unknown.
John W. HUGHES, 1843-1891 Charles City and James City Co's.
George Camp/Kemp RICHARDSON, 1807-1881 James City Co.
Augustine EDWARDS, 1822 ->1880 King & Queen Co. > Adolphus Edwards 1856-1919
KQ and Hanover
Samuel BAILEY, 1766? Henrico - 1816 New Kent Co. > Rebecca Bailey [Mrs.
Foster] Higgins of NK
Foster HIGGINS, 1803->1850 New Kent and Hanover > Thaddeus HIggins 1828-1893
Hanover
Thomas Drummond HARRIS, of James City [1800's]
William Savage BACON, of James City.[1800's]

I'd be delighted to share info with anyone on these families! Also, I
would like to share my observations here which may be helpful to others or
stimulate thought and conversation: In researching in King William Co.,
which is contiguous to New Kent Co., I noticed occurrences of surnames which
are common to New Kent, and also surnames which became given names in New
Kent and wonder about the connections between families in the two counties.
It would appear, on the surface at least, that KW families migrated to or
intermarried with New Kent families. For example - the name Dudley as a
surname in KW appears in NK as a given name [e.g. Dudley Williams] or the
surname Beverley later used in NK as a given name [e.g. Beverley Slater].
Merediths, many Slaughters, Edwards [who intermarried with NK Vaidens], and
many more that escape me now. Has anyone else noticed this and wondered
about it? I guess that I am grabbing for clues since I can't find any
parentage for Edward Slater or clues as to where this line may have entered
VA and when, and then how they got to NKCo. First I thought there might be a
connection between the NK Slaters and the York Sclaters, but now, I believe
in a possible link to the KWCo. Slaughters. Comments are most welcome!
