Pat & others==
I'd like to add to what Pat has said. I live in CA &
borrow through my county library who charges 50 cents
per reel for return postage. The Lib of VA on-line
catalog has all the film numbers. I give my library
the film number, description & the films come as soon
as they order them. My library however, is
understaffed so sometimes they don't request the films
for over a month.
For those who might like to know, a similiar thing is
available for State of TX Library & Archives films.
the films are actually housed in different Universities
but their on-line catalog explains that & give the
address for your library to use in ordering the films.
Two great state microfilm loan programs!! I am real
thankful for both. Only bummer is that I have to drive
50 miles to a library branch which has a reader, but
that is my local system.
Donna
I order microfilm from the Library of Virginia all the
time and
I live in Maryland. They will send it to any libraries
that
participate in inter-library loan programs. (In my
case, the
county library system does participate and at least
three
branches have microfilm readers).
There is no charge and I usually get to use them (at
the library only) for about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks.
It has made my Virginia research the easiest thing.
There are a few things currently microfilmed that don't
get loaned out, but not many.
If your local libraries qualify with the above stuff,
give it a
try. Or perhaps try one of the local Community
Colleges near
your. They may be able to order them for you.
So I say, "Hooray for the Library of Virginia".
