Tony Jones asked:
> Was Mr. Harber the History teacher?
Yes, I remember him well. Wouldn't allow us to call him "Mr Harber" or
"Sir", but insisted on "Bob". Very much went against the grain, when
you had other masters like "Charlie" Law (Latin) who would insist on
everyone standing as he entered the room, and then would spend at
least five minutes inspecting his class before we could sit down.
Bob Harber was our form master in the second year, and he also taught
us history. I remember two incidents: Once, as a practical joke, we all
decided to turn our desks round before he arrived for the lesson (he
was always late!). When he finally came, and saw what we had done,
he calmly walked to the back of the classroom, without saying a word,
and conducted the class from there. On the second occasion, he being
late as usual (!) we were behaving ourselves we always did - generally
rioting and throwing paper airplanes around. Suddenly, our look-out
shouted "he's coming!", and we all raced back to our desks, folded our
arms and put on our angelic faces. Bob, in his usual calm manner,
walked into the room, over to the window, and peered through down to
the carpark below, where he could clearly see the evidence of our
"behaviour".
So here's to "Bob". I may not be able to remember what he taught us, but
he did a great job for "team spirit"!
Also, my congratulations to "Mac" on the latest OVA magazine, which I
received this morning - the first "Internet" edition". Very interesting
reading.
