According to my farm-raised husband, a capon is a castrated rooster. I also
found the same definition on this page:

In the brochure history of Chippokes Plantation State Park, Surry VA is
written:

In Feb 18, 1642 George Powell s/o Capt Wm Powell,leased the land to Stephen
Webb for thee time and terme of three lives (that is to say) for and during
the life of said Stephen Webb and Dame Clare his wife and Robert Webb and
the survivors and survivor of them. Webb was pay "unto the said George
Powell od his assignes one capon upon the feast day of St. Thomas the
Apostle if the same be lawfully demanded..."Webb agreed to build on some
part of the 300 acres " a good and sufficient framed house containing forty
five feet in length and twenty feet in breath with two chimneys and glasse
windows to the same and a celler adjoying to it also of fiftene feet
square"" The house was to be "ground-selled and underpinned with bricks"
Also agreed to plant " one Acre of the land sufficiently with all kind of
fruite trees that this country usually afforded (that is to say) with apple
trees, peare trees, cherry trees, Apricockes, Figs, and peach trees with a
garden thereunto adjoying".

Now what is a CAPON? To me its a duck so I looked it up with no
success..Webster says only a duck.
