Curtis J Baker, 34, died at a Lebanon, Va., hospital Thursday night after a long illness.
He was a member of the Lake View Baptist Church and was a farmer at Route 2, Castlewood.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Tate Davis Baker, Castlewood; two daughters, Glenda Faye Baker and Kathy Ann Baker, Castlewood; two brothers, John C. Baker, Robert Baker, Castlewood; one sister, Mrs. Robert Jessee, Dante, Va.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Lake View Church with Rev. Banner Taylor Rev. William Novak and Rev. Roy Reeding officiating. Burial will be in Fugate family cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church 1 hour before services from the Lebanon Funeral Home. The body is at the funeral home.

Jennie B. Whited Dies
Jennie B. Whited, 75, 2004 Hermitage Dr., died Thursday at the Holston Valley Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Whited and F.K. Whited, Jr., both of Kingsport and Sidney L. Whited of Honaker; two daughters, Mrs. L.F. Valley of Lebanon, Va. and Mrs. Bill W. Lineback of Kingsport; one sister, Mrs. May Looney of Royal City, Va.; 8 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at the Honaker, Va. Methodist Church with Rev. T.O. Willis and Rev. Frank Mason, and Rev. L.G. Herndon. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery of Honaker.
The body will remain at Honaker Funeral Home and will be taken to the church 1 hour before services.

Rev. F.W. Herndon Dies
Castlewood, Va.
Rev. Frank W. Herndon, 88(?), Route 2, Castlewood, died Thursday evening at an Abingdon, Va., hospital after a brief illness.
He was a veteran of World War I and supply pastor for the Grassy Creek Union Church and the Lake View Union Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lottie Statzer Herndon, Castlewood; one son, Frank W. Herndon II, Weber City, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Agnes Walker, Roanoke, Va., Mrs. Esther Plaster, Mrs. Gaye Glenn, both of Richmond, Va; one brother, Joseph E Herndon, Danville, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Millie Absher, Fort Union, Va., Mrs. Essie Knowles, Danville, Va., Mrs. Burnetta Tolley, Roanoke; seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Lake View Union Church, Route 2, Castlewood, with Rev. William A. Novak and Rev. Nathan King officiating. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church 1 hour before services from the Lebanon Funeral Home.

Mrs. E.F. Gent, 78, Dies
Mrs. E.F. Gent, 78, 1022 Reedy Place, died at 7:30 AM Friday at her home after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Gent was born in Buck County, Virginia, and moved to Kingsport 39 years ago from Russell County, Virginia. She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, E.F. Gent, Kingsport; five daughters, Mrs. Russell Kiser, Carmel Valley, Calif., Mrs. Ardella Peppers, Chester, Va., And Mrs. Velma Neil, Mrs. Opal Ruth, and Mrs. Grace Ragsdale, all of Kingsport; two sons, Grady, McKinleyville, Calif., and Gerald Gent, Kingsport; six sisters, Mrs. Margaret Davis and Mrs. Lonnie Childress, both of Cedar Bluff, Va., Mrs. H.K. Hawkins and Mrs. Mattie Childress, both of Front Royal, Va., Mrs. Myrtle Austin, Virginia, and Mrs. Rose Gent, Lebanon, Va.; two brothers, Walter Brooks, Cedar Bluff, Va., and Douglas Brooks; Bristol; and 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.

James J. Thompson, 45, was killed in a car accident 10:00 PM Saturday at Hansonville intersection near Lebanon, Va.
He was a former resident of Pocahontas, Va. and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lillian H. Thompson. Hickman AFB, Hawaii; one son, Mike Thompson, Princeton, W. Va.; one daughter, Miss Diane Thompson, Princeton, W.Va.; three brothers, Yate Thompson, Kingsport, MSGT. Bob Thompson, Hickman AFB, Bill Thompson, Severna Park, Md.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Lebanon Funeral Home in Lebanon, Va.
Burial is planned in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Mrs. E.B. Castle, 91, died in a Lebanon Hospital Wednesday evening.
She was a member of Ester Memorial Methodist Church.
Surviving are sons Jim and Henry Castle, both of Castlewood, Va.; daughters, Mrs. Dallas Williams, Lebanon, Mrs. Howard F Bailey, Kingsport, and Mrs. H.D. Campbell, Castlewood; sister, Mrs. R.E. Cooper of West Virginia; half sister, Mrs. Bill Castle, Pineville, W.Va., W.E. Bailey, St. Paul, Va.; 18 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Eliza Puckett Buckland, 76, died Sunday afternoon in a Richlands, Va. hospital.
Survivors include her husband, David Frank Buckland, Honaker; son Palmer, J. Buckland, Honaker; sisters, Mrs. Robert Stump of Honaker, Mrs. Myrtle Meade of Kingsport and Mrs. Stewart Rose of Nicklesville, Va.; brother, George Puckett of Kingsport, John Puckett of Montgomery, Pa., and Fred Puckett of Asheville Ohio; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Honaker, Rev. L.G. Herndon officiating. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery.
The body will be taken to the residence this morning from the Honaker Funeral Home and will be taken to the church 1 hour before services.

Marvin E. Teague
Pennington Gap, Va.
Marvin E. Teague, 55, died of a heart attack Monday at the Old Dominion Power Co. Sub Station at Jonesville. He had been manager of the Old Dominion substation since 1935.
He had been a member of the Pennington Gap Town Council for the last 10 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the church's board of deacons and several fraternal groups.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Eura C. Teague of Pennington Gap; one son Joseph of Chesapeake, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Bolling of Lebanon, Va., Bobbie Lou Teague of Pennington Gap and Mrs. Dwane Fowell of Wichita, Kan.,; three brothers, James of Sarasota, Fla., Clyde J. of Hyattsville, Md., and Howard of Appalachia, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Fix of Princeton, W.Va., and Mrs. Cleo Parker of Appalachia, Va.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday in the First Baptist Church, Pennington Gap, by Rev. Allen G. Moor. Burial will be in the Lee Memorial Park.

Lebanon Baptist Church, Lebanon, Va., was the scene of the marriage of Miss Wanda Bailey to Glenn Thomas Rivers April 25 at 12:12 PM with Rev. Fred Harcum officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Bailey of Route 10, Kingsport, and the bridegroom is the son of the late George T. Rivers of Puyallup, Washington, and the foster son of Mrs. Louise Cox of 301 Castle Oaks Dr. Kingsport.
Attired in a white sheath dress with white accessories, the bride was attended by Miss Caroline McMurray, maid of honor. Miss McMurray wore a yellow dress with yellow and white accessories.
Stanley Crawford, friend of the bridegroom, served as best man.
They are residing at 301 Castle Oaks Dr., Kingsport.

Mrs. Shirley Sutton, 31, of Collingwood Community, Lebanon Route 3, died at her residence Monday afternoon.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Russell County Home Demonstration Club. She attended Sullans College in Bristol.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Sutton, Lebanon; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burt L. Patterson, Lumberton, N.C.; brother, James W. Sproles, Morristown; sisters, Mrs. Lynn P. Tankersley, Lumberton, Mrs. Kirby Hart, Greely, Colo., and Mrs. Allen MacEachern, Denver, Colo.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday at Bethany Methodist Church in Collingwood Community with Rev. Bill Hawk, Rev. Jack Porter and Rev. Kenneth Shearer officiating. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood, Va.
The body will be taken to the church 1 hour before services from the Lebanon Funeral Home.

Theodore Roosevelt (Ted) Duncan, 60, died at 4:00 AM Friday at his home after a lingering illness.
A lifelong resident of Scott County, he was a pastor of Darthula Baptist Church.
Survivors include the widow, Mabel Freeman Duncan ; one son, Charles of Lebanon, Va.; three sisters, Mae and Pearl Duncan of Clinchport and Ruby Duncan of Kingsport; six brothers, Jay and Basil of Clinchport; George and Bill of Gate City; Lawrence of Surgionsville; and Howard of Roan Mountain and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Scott County Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Paul Blessing, Rev. Claude Taylor and Rev. Dana Crawford. Burial will be in Holston View Cemetery.
Before the funeral, the body will remain at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends.

Mrs. Lucy V. Salyer, 86, died at a Coeburn rest home at 12:00 PM on Tuesday.
She was a former resident of the Grassy Creek Community and was a member of the Grassy Creek Methodist Church.
She was the widow of B.H. Salyer.
Survivors are two sons, Claude Salyer, Carson Salyer, both of Bristol; two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday at the Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel in Lebanon, Va. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery at Castlewood, Va.
The body will remain at the Lebanon Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 7-9 PM today.

Lawrence Fields, 72, a former resident of Dunbar, Va., and father of Mrs. Bud Barton of Coalfield Progress staff and Norton, died at his home in the Tumbez Community of Russell County Friday morning after lengthy illness.
At Dunbar he worked for Stonega Coke and Coal Co. He was active in church and community work.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ella Baker Fields of Hansonville, Va.; daughters, Mrs. Deward Gayness, Sophia,W.Va.; Mrs. Naomi Daugherty, Dayton Ohio, and Mrs. Barton; a foster daughter, Mrs. Nanny Mae Marshall, Hansonville; sister, Mrs. Viola Salyer, Catawba, Va.; brothers, Leon, Lebanon and Scott Fields, Nickelsville, Va.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2:30 PM Sunday in Stuart Chapel. Rev. B.J. Hawk and Rev. W.L. Gates will conduct the service. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery here.
The body will be taken to the residence Saturday from the Lebanon Funeral Home.

Mrs. R. Hunter Dickenson of 101 East Carter's Valley Road died at 2:30 AM Tuesday following a short illness.
She was born in Green Springs Community in Washington County, Va., and had lived in Kingsport since 1940.
She is survived by her husband, R. Hunter Dickenson of Kingsport; two sons, Phil of Kingsport and James K. of Bristol; and one brother, Nathan R. Keys of Detroit, Mich.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 PM at Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel, in Lebanon, Va. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lebanon, Va.
Rev. Wayne Cummings will be in charge of services.
The body will be at Lebanon Funeral Home. Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home of Kingsport is in charge arrangements.

She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are five sons, Frank Statzer, Cleve Statzer, and Gilbert Statzer, all of Lebanon, Henry Statzer, Bristol, Va., and Lloyd Statzer, Salem, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Ezell, LaCross, Va, Mrs. Shirley Salyer, Bristol, Va., and Mrs. Pansy Bellamy, Kingsport; two brothers, Marsh Lampkins, Lebanon and George Lampkins, Piney Flats; four sisters, Mrs. Nannie Robinson, Lebanon, Va. Mrs. Thula Lampkins, Mrs. Bessie King, and Mrs. Daisy Wright, all of Kingsport; and 24 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Oak Grove Methodist Church. Rev. B.L. Hawk, Rev. Howard Robinson, and Rev. Ernest Dale will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday at Carter's Chapel. Rev. A. Tom Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Castlewood, Virginia.

She was the daughter of Hanlan and Sally Castle Salyers and was the widow of Moses Byington. She was a member of Burk's Church in the Grassy Creek Community.
Survivors include four sons, John, Emmitt, Bill, and Frank, all of Castlewood.; five daughters, Mrs. Ernest Lynch, Mrs. Ernest Porter, Miss Carmen Byington, and Miss Celia Byington, all of Castlewood, and Mrs. Calvin King, Montecello, Ind.; 22 grand children and 47 great grand children.

She was a resident of Route 2, Castlewood, and a member of Ester Memorial Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James D. Lawson; one son, J.W. Lawson, Castlewood; one daughter, Miss Ruth Lawson, Castlewood; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Muse Munsey, Lebanon, Va.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Ester Memorial Methodist Church.
Rev. B.J. Hawk will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Cemetery, Castlewood.
The body will remain at Lebanon Funeral Home and will be taken to the church 1 hour before services.

Mrs. Ida Hale

Mrs. Ida Arlien(?) Hale, 81, died at 12:15 AM Thursday at King's Mountain Nursing Home in Bristol.
She is survived by two sons, Earl Hale, Boynton Beach, Fla., and Russell Hale, Chattanooga; five daughters, Mrs. George Barnett, Dante, Va.; Mrs. Burt Price, Kingsport; Mrs. Thomas Stoots, Lebanon, Va.; Mrs. Howard Niman, Mansfield Ohio; Mrs. Evelyn Powers, St. Paul; one brother, John Amburgey, Dante, Va.; one sister, Miss Gladys Amburgey, Castlewood, Va.; 23 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:00 PM at Dingus Memorial Chapel. Rev. Walter Glovier will officiate. Burial will follow in Temple Hill Cemetery. The body will remain at Huff-Cook Funeral Home until time for burial services.
