Marrianne,
Here's a little more from Crozier's Spotsy Deed abstracts.
Sept 9, 1784. James True and Sarah his wife [did they ALL marry Sarahs?], of
Caroline Co., of the first part; Peter Dudley and Susannah, his wife, of
Spotsylvania Co., of the second part; Edmund Bryant and Sarah, his wife, of
Spots. Co., of the third part, to Edward Marsh of Spots. Co., of the fourth
part. Whereas the said Peter Dudley, being seized in fee in a certain tract
of land containing 150 acres for a consideration sold the same to the said
James True, but before conveyance of same was made, the said james sold the
same to said Marsh for 150 pounds currency, and whereas the said Sarah
Bryant, who was formerly the widow of John True, late of Spotsy Co.,
deceased, and now the wife of said Edmund Bryant, was entitled to 1/3 part
of the land during her life as for her dower in the same of the endowment of
her former husband, the said John True, who was in his lifetime seized of
said land, which right of dower was never relinquished, but which she, in
conjunction with her said husband, Edmund Bryant, have now agreed to release
to the said Marsh. Wit: James Lewis, Matthew Carpenter, Thomas Colson.
recorded Nov 2, 1784. Crozier pg 385/Spotsy Co Deed Bk K.

note: in Deed Bk J, Oct 8, 1778, there is a deed (fm John Kelly to Benjamin
Johnston) mentioning an Edward Bryant with his wife, Sarah, the widow of the
late John True.

I could find no will or administrator's bonds for this Bryant family before
1800 in Spotsy Co.
