Dear Older Than Dirt Sondra,

LOL, I don't know what all the fuss is
about. Agree or disagree? I was just
throwing out an idea. I admire your
experience and your talk of research
"in the old days and by snail mail".
In today's world of instant gratification
anticipation has taken a back seat.

I have been seriously enjoying genealogy
since July of 2005 but have never
been to the state library in Richmond.
Instead I have enjoyed courthouse hopping
along the Northern Neck and Northern VA.
One day in beautiful Spotsy on one of
those trips. People have told me that I could
gather more information at the Library of VA
but going to the individual courthouses takes
me to the areas that my ancestors lived. Rubbing
elbows with the locals is fun and helpful too.

I'm familiar with Ancestry. Had it free for one
year and know where you are coming from talking
about misinformation. Have you ever tried to offer
them correct information with documentation? I don't
think that's an option...it was more like banging
your head. Some libraries subscribe to Ancestry and
it can be accessed while at the library. It seems to me
that more libraries subscribe to HeritageQuest which
with a library card number can be accessed from the
comfort of your home.

You are so right about people needing to document
place, time and relationship of those they are trying
to find information on because it puts things in
perspective.
