There were DUNAWAYs living in Caswell County in the last quarter of the 18th
century and first quarter of the 19th.
ABRAM DUNAWAY was one of the extrs named in the will of CHARLES FERRELL
[will dated July 27, 1787; Kendall and Donaldson, CASWELL COUNTY, NORTH
CAROLINA WILL BOOKS, 1777-1814, WB B, p. 218 (p.24 in source]
Power of Attorney from PURNELL INGRAM & ELIZABETH INGRAM (late ELIZABETH
COMMENS daughter of WILLIAM COMMENS, decd] of Greenbrier County, VA, to
ARCHIBALD MURPHEY and AHRAM DUNAWAY to recover part of estate of WILLIAM
COMMENS. November 11, 1793. Witneses JOSEPH HALL, REUBEN GAFFORD. [Ibid., WB
C, April Court 1794, p. 74 (p.45) ]
Bond: HUGH DOBBIN and THOMAS JEFFREYS unto REUBEN TAYLOR, conveyance of deed
of Land adj ABRAM DUNAWAY on Kilgore's Branch to JOHN HALL's corner. [Ibid.,
April Court, 1795, p. 125 (p.49) ]
ENOCH DUNAWAY bought items at estate sale of JAMES MERRITT, decd.
[Ibid., October Court, 1799, p. 346 (p.63)] And at estate sale of JOHN YATES,
decd.
[Ibid., January Court, 1799, p. 372 (p.64) and April Court, 1799, p. 390
(p.65)]
Among the insolvents for 1803 given in by WILLIAM RAINEY, Esqr., Sherriff:
ENOCH DUNAWAY [Ibid., WB D, July Court, p. 198 (p.99)]
ABRAM DUNAWAY listed in Tax List of 1783, Richmond District, 450 acres Mill
Creek 1-0 [Ibid., on Kendall and Donaldson p. 134]
As there were CARVERS and LORDS and LONGS living in the Orange-Person-Caswell
county area of NC during this time along with the DUNAWAYs, since the former
three families came from Stafford Co., VA, perhaps so did the DUNAWAYs.
