I have recently found information on the Mountjoy's from the book "They
Called Stafford Home" Am sending the chart of one which has the most
information. One of the members of a family of Withers that I'm
researching, Sarah, m. a Mountjoy. So far, I haven't followed the family.

Descendants of William Mountjoy, Capt.
Generation No. 1
1. WILLIAM3 MOUNTJOY, CAPT. (EDWARD2, UNKNOWN1)1 was born April 17, 1711 in
Locust Hill Stafford Co., Va., and died September 27, 1777 in Stafford
County, Va., age 66 years. He married PHILLIS REILLY, daughter of THOMAS
REILLY and ELIZABETH.

p.219: Captain William Mountjoy resided at Locust Hill and was a
considerable land holder in Stafford and adjoining counties. They had nine
children who lived long enough to be included in their father's will. To son
william (1737-1820), he left his dwelling plantation (Locust Hill). To son
John (1741-1825) he left 160 acres including the mill (Millvale). to son
Alvin (1745-1827), he left 150 acres. Son Thomas (b.1740) received 200
acres. the other children received land in Stafford and Fauquier Counties.
Several of the captain's children appear in Stafford County records,
including Thomas (b.1740), who acted as Presiding Justice in Stafford. He
was still living in 1806, when a deposition given by him listed his age as
sixty-six.
-----------------------p.220: Captain Mountjoy also appears repeatedly in
county records. In 1742 and again in 1750 he was appointed tobacco inspector
at Cave's Warehouse near Belle Plain. He served as a vestryman of
Overwharton Parish in 1745 and attended Potomac Church, just south of his
plantation. He was still a vestryman in 1757.-

Notes for WILLIAM MOUNTJOY:
With the exception of William, who inherited the Locust Hill home, all of
Captain Mountjoy's sons moved to Kentucky after the Revolution, their
parcels of the original Locust Hill tract being sold to various individuals.
vi. THOMAS MOUNTJOY1, b. 1740.
Notes for THOMAS MOUNTJOY:
was referred to as "Col. Thomas Mountjoy of the 10th Virginia Regiment" in
the pension petitions of war veterans living in Kentucky, but he was listed
as a captain in the official register of Revolutionary War veterans.
Thomas Mountjoy, son of the captain, and William Garrard were appointed
official tobacco inspectors at Cave's Warehouse in 1772.
In 1775 Thomas was a vestryman for Overwharton Parish. In that year the
House of Burgesses ordered the vestry to inventory the real and personal
estate of the parish. Thomas and John Mountjoy served with Robert Buchan,
rector, John R. Peyton, William Garrard, Moses Phillips, Elijah Threlkeld,
George Burroughts, and JAMES WITHERS to make the report.
vii. JOHN MOUNTJOY1, b. 1741; d. 1825; m. MARY ANN GARRARD.
Notes for JOHN MOUNTJOY:
During the Revolution, John served as a captain with the 10th Virginia
Regiment.
After the Revolution, John moved to Kentucky--sometime before Feb. 1799.

Served as a lieutenant in the 3rd Virginia Regiment. (Rev. War)
ix. ELIZABETH MOUNTJOY, b. 1751; m. JAMES GARRARD1.
Notes for JAMES GARRARD:
James and Elizabeth moved in 1783 to Kentucky, where he later served as
governor for two terms.
