Hi Cousins: Researching Joseph Watkins, a free African American, born
around 1765. Married Sally Porter, daughter of Edward Porter on October 28,
1788.

Joseph is a descendant of one of the Watkins children who were listed in the
inventory of the John Coppedge Northumberland County Virginia estate between
1743 and 1749 - Robert ba 1737, Jeane or Jane ba 1739, Michael ba 1741 and
Catherine ba 1743. These children were of European, Indian (probably
Cherokee) and African ancestry. Their skin complexion was "fair" enough to
be considered White. Some of them may have passed as being White. But,
that's OK.

I would like to communicate with any and all WATKINS of African, Indian, and
European ancestry who may be connected to Robert, Jeane, Michael, and
Catherine.
