Message Board Post:
I am researching my Father's paternal ancestry. His Father was James Wilson Dunn, b. c. 1800 in Putnam Tn. This Dunn family has lived in the middle TN White/Putnam/DeKalb areas area since the early 1830's, but before that, I have hit a brick wall. I am hoping that other Dunn researchers might help me get back on track. Paternally, his line reads...
Jame Wilson Dunn, b. 1800, >Asbury W Dunn, b. 1873, > Jim W Dunn, b. 1850, >James(or John) Allen Dunn, B. 1802 VA.
DNA results indicate that this Dunn line may have ties to the Surry, VA area, but I simply cannot find the definitive tie in. If you can offer any insight or direction, I would sincerely appreciate it.
Pure speculation: J Allen Dunn's Mother *may* have been an Allen. His Father *may* been either John or James, or William; his parents *may* have died soon after his birth; he *may* have been associated with the Elmore family. While very young, he *may* have moved to Kentucky, as his wife, Catherine LaFever was born there.
Ultimately he ended up in middle Tennesseee. Even though he had many descendents, no one seems to have a clue as to where he came from.
Thank you
Lyn Dunn Milam
