Bryan,
I too have connections to Rich Neck and the CARY family. The "Calendar of
State Papers" gives the following item for the year 1808:
By the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
A Proclamation- February 25th.
Authorizing the acceptance of the tender made by Wade MOUNTFORT of his
house at Rich-Neck in the county of Warwick, for the purpose of holding the
Courts and transacting the business of the said County, during the times
required for the enlargement and repair of the Court House.
Wade's ggg-grandfather was Col. Thomas MOUNTFORT of York {also Elizabeth City
& Warwick} Co., m. Jane SCASBROOK, dt of Lt.Col. John SCASBROOK Sr. Jane's
sister Martha m. David CONDON; David & bro-n-law Thomas were sued over their
administration of their father-n-law's estate by William CARY. Three of the
four ch of Col. SCASBROOK's 1st marriage wed grandchildren of Miles CARY
{½-sis Jane & Martha were ch of 2m.}. [I descend from Wade's grandfather
Thomas, d. 1787, Southampton Co., VA.]
Data posted on ancestry.com does not agree with that published in Waters'
"Gleanings," which gives many wills from the CARY family of Bristol, England.
One cannot construct a full pedigree from the data presented. One Alice
CARY named a bequest to her uncle Myles CARY of Virginia, but her father is
not given; also, Waters chose not to listed some of the children named in the
documents he accessed. Waters assigned one William CARY as the probable
ancestor of Miles & the Va. line. I don't know if contrary evidence exists.
The e-mail addresses of the submitter {to ancestry.com} & her source are
invalid.
