Firstly, did you order his medical records also? These can aid
greatly in retracing a soldiers civil war experience.

The University of Michigan has some records of Carver Hospital see:
http://www.clements.umich.edu/Webguides/Schoff/C/Carver.html

There is a picture of the interior of Carver Hospital (as well as an
interestinf article on war time Washington) at:
http://xroads.virginia.edu/~CAP/hospital/whitman.htm

This picture is from the national Archives - a better view is
available at:
http://clio.nara.gov:70/I/inform/dc/audvis/still/civwar/civil038.jpg
and can be ordered from the Still Pictures Branch, NARA (the brochure
still lists the Washington DC address but says the collection was
moving to College Park in 1994).

If anyone knows of a map showing all the Washington DC civil war
hospitals, I would love to hear about it.

Paula
