Subject: [VAWBTSVETS] List of Capt. White G. Ryan's Co. I, sixtieth Reg.,VA Infantry
Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2007 15:13:11 -0400
Thank you for the privilege of joining your newsletter and group.
My grandfather three generations removed, one Pvt. Simeon D. Hopkins of Mercer Co.,Wv joined Capt. White G. Ryan's Co I, Sixtieth Reg.., VA Infantry in 1862 or 1863. This CSA group joined forces with others in Wyethville, VA and into the Shenandoah Campaign.
He was captured at the battle of Winchester, VA and taken to Ft. Delaware Union POW Camp in 1864? Released in 1865, he died with one, Pvt. Levi Farley in/near Elgood, WV enroute home on foot in a terrible winter storm. We found the family cemetery and marked it w/ a memorial in 1991.
I am trying to trace him through muster rolls, battles, capture at Winchester, VA and imprisonment at Ft. Delaware Union Prison until his death in 1865.
Any help you can give will be deeply appreciated.
Thank you,
Glenn D. Hopkins
