Harriet & Bob: You're making me homesick with this talk about Norwich.
I, too, am from there, at least 4th generation. Went to grade school at
the school on the town square, played basketball, etc. in the
gymnasium/meeting room at Tracy Hall. I even remember going with my
grandparents to Town Meeting and learning the workings of a small
Vermont town. Used to buy a $1 of gas at Dan & Whit's when I got my
first car, and put it on my store charge account! I can still close my
eyes and smell the little library (before the additions) where my
passion for books was ever enhanced. Used to buy 5 cent ice cream cones
at Gill's Store (double scoops!) and munch on fresh apples at Brigham's
orchard. I can remember the Parkers' butcher shop on main street, with
its wood floors and cool display cases. Ah, yes, it's time to visit
home again! And, I expect to be there in October. It isn't the same as
it was then, of course, but it's still "home." Most of the folks I knew
have gone and been replaced by those commonly referred to by
less-than-flattering terms, but my grandparents are buried there and
when I drive by the home where I was born on New Boston Road, I relive
many good memories. Linda L. (Jerome) Crowe
