IClark Rogers settled early at Franklin Center, VT and built the first
tavern-stand there in 1795. Many propietary meetings were held there. In
1807 a meeting of the proprietors was held at his house and he is described
as the inn-holder. I wonder if anyone can tell me what a tavern-stand was.
I know an inn and a tavern can be the same thing, but would appreciate a more
clear understanding.
Also, I am trying to find a list of Clark Rogers children. His wife was
Sarah Carr. They apparently had a son John, for he is buried next to them in
the Maple Grove cemetery in Franklin. I believe my husbands gr gr
grandmother, Mercy Rogers was their daughter.
I believe Sarah Carr was born in Hancock, MA, Clark Rogers may have been too.
My information on him is that he was of Dutchess Co, N Y. He also may have
been in Hebron, Washington Co, N Y. at some time before he went to Vermont.
I don't know where he was married or where his children were born. I sure
could use some help.
Sandy
