At a donation visit held at the parsonage last evening, Jan. 6th, gifts were
left for the pastor and his family amounting to $120.
The wife of Mr. Mark Capron died Saturday Jan 1. She had been for several
years a great sufferer. The funeral took place on Tuesday of this week, Mr.
Palmer of Middleton, officiating.
There is a good deal of sickness in the town at the present.
Pittsford
The pulpit of the Congregational church was occupied in the morning
yesterday, by Rev. Mr. Johnson, of Rutland, and in the evening by Rev. W.W.
Foster, Jr. of the Methodist church of the town. Both discourses were able
and impressive and secured the closest attention.
The funeral of Nehemiah Barnes, who died Friday evening, was attended at his
late residence at 1 o'clock p.m. Rev. R. F. Hall officiating. Mr. Barnes
had attained the age of 79 years, 1 month and 7 days, and had long been one
of the substantial and honored men of the town. His father, John Barnes,
sen. was one of the early settlers of the town and resided on the west side
of the creek. A proprietors' meeting was held at his house June 3, 1776. He
was clerk of Capt. Cooley's company in Col. Ebenezer Allen's regiment of
State militia in the Revolutionary War. Was frequently called in cases of
alarm, though he was never in the Continental service. His eldest son,
John, jr., was a soldier in the war of 1812 and towards the close of it held
the rank of orderly sergeant. John Barnes sen. had twelve children, six
sons and six daughters. Nehemiah was the fourth son.
