Subject: Amer/William/ or Pierre Via???
Date: Sun, 23 Nov 1997 11:14:09 -0500 (EST)

Good morning everyone,
I have seen family group sheets for Amer Via that includes the name William.
Does anyone have anything to prove this information? Personally I can't
understand where this information got started. I have never seen a reference
to Amer that includes the name William.

I am one of those researchers (yes, there are others like me) that question
the name Amer Via. Was that really his name or an English corruption of his
original French name?

In Cavaliers and Pioneers we find Amor (or Amos) Via, as being transported by
John Webb & John Rea poss in 1677. There is also a Wm. Vier transported by
Henry Aubery 4 Oct 1675. And lastly a Pierre Viet listed in Huguenot
Emigration to Virginia. Has anyone done any research on the above listed Wm.
Vier or Pierre Viet?

My very preliminary thoughts are William Vier MAY have been the immigrant for
the Maryland family. I have not checked this line out yet but will do so
unless someone else knows who this Wm. Vier is. I believe it's possible that
Pierre Viet and Amer Via could have been the same person. This also needs
further checking. Anyone have any thoughts on Pierre?

Here's some of the things we need to clear up.
1. Who was the immigrant ancestor
2. When did he arrive in America
3. Who was his wife
4. Who were his children
5. When & where did he die

This will be a big task and won't be easy. So I need all the help you can
give me. Has anyone ever seen any document linking Amer to his reported sons
Robert and William? Births/baptisms, land records, deeds, etc?

Thank you,
Judy
