<< Their is plenty of evidence that these people existed and were related to
each
other. For example on page 217 Amor Viah and Geo. Turner were appointed
overseer of St. Paul's Parish for this land deal in Pursuance for
procefsionind of lands. On page 250 it says: Mary Via and Amor Via names are
mentioned separately but in the same paragraph in refernce to land. >>
Leon,
This is why I believe we still do not understand the full impact of what these
records are actually saying. No where in these records is Mary or Marg
referred to as widow. Yet for many other women "widow" was their title. And
you're correct that Mary and Amor are mentioned separately in the same
paragraph. Why would that be?
Going back to Edna's message.....does anyone know if there is a way to
determine where a person was transported from? If Amer was transported in
1677 is there a way to find out where he was transported from?
There are still many areas that should be fully explored in search of Amer
Via. Edna made a good point in referencing Dorothy Maupin Shaffet's book.
She located a headrights document for Gabriel Maupin that showed the names of
his children, she located an obituary for Gabriel's son Daniel from 1788,
located the ship record he arrived on, and located (and visited) the church he
was married in 1691 in Amsterdam. My point being that records most likely
exist for Amer Via, we just have to find them. One of our biggest stumbling
blocks of course is we don't really know his name so we must search all Via's
and various spellings for the early to late 1600's. We also must search
different countries. Again, like Edna pointed out it is very probable if he
were from France that he went to another country before coming to America.
A good starting place would be Salt Lake City. I'm not in a position to make
a trip at this time but if anyone else is I'm always willing to contribute
toward expenses. Or if anyone else thinks it's a good idea we could all chip
in some and hire a researcher in Salt Lake. Just some ideas to think about.
