Oakley Hill
(Hanover Co., Virginia)

Oakley Hill is located on Cold Harbor Road near Walnut Grove Church. It is
frame over an English basement. The old oak grove in the yard gave the home
its name. The house is one room deep with center hall. The third floor was
added later.

This was the home of Edward and Sarah E. (Ladd) Sydnor. The Sydnor family
owned tracts of land adjoining each other in this area. The others were
Meadow Farm and Walnut Lane. Another parcel was Dungarvon located on Route
615 and now owned by the family of the late Oscar Via, Sr. In 1845 Edward
Sydnor gave the two acres of land, a part of Oakley Hill, on which the Walnut
Grove Baptist Church is built, and the use of a spring, as long as it is used
as a church.
