Judy, The brother's name was Gideon. Tradition is he got involved in a land
deal and was never heard of again. All my life I heard the story of two
brothers who landed at Jamestown. Now through my own research believe this
is the John Veer who's land was escheated (meaning the land had no
improvements on it after two years or the person was dead and the government
took the land back. An entry in Cavaliers and Pioneers shows this. The
date was 1714 Probably the same thing William America Vier did when he
changed his name to Via. A very common practice in those early days.
illegal but condoned by the government until the practice got out of hand.
