One quick question. I've seen Hiram's name posted to our group as Hiram
Patrick Via. Does anyone have any records that give his middle name as
Patrick?
Everyone I know, who knew him, always called him Uncle Pate. He was likely
named for his maternal grandfather, Matthew Pate WALTON, born in Hanover. PATE
is a family name from eighteenth century Hanover County, Virginia. His
grandfather may have been named for Matthew PATE of Hanover County. This VIA and
WALTON family is no kin to the PEYTON family. I do not know where the
"Patrick" comes from, other than Pate is sometimes a nickname for Patrick. ~~Edna
