Mr. William T. Via, 75, a resident of Harriston, died, at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday morning (Jan. 1, 1991) at the University of Virginia Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday morning. Mr. Via died unexpectedly.

A son of Oscar W. Via and Attellar Wood Via, he was born on February 9, 1915 in Albemarle County where he lived until the age of 12. He then moved to the Harriston area where he had since lived.

Mr. Via was a member of the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. He worked for the Reynolds Metal Company in Grottoes from where he retired.

He is survived by one son, William F. Via of Charlottesville; one daughter, Mrs. Julian (Betty) Via of Grottoes; two granddaughters, Sonia Via of Charlottesville and Mrs. Colin (Teresa) Hester of Grottoes; three great-grandsons, Jason, Adam, and Daniel, all of Grottoes; one brother, Herbert M. Via of Grottoes; three sisters, Mrs. Jimmy (Joy) Marshall of Staunton, Mrs. Elmer (Eilar) Humphries and Mrs. Harry (Carrie) Humphries, both of Grottoes; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Bobby (Ruby) Downs of Grottoes; and two brothers, Guy W. Via and Ray E. Via both of Grottoes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home with the Rev. David Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the Edgewood Cemetery in Grottoes.

His body now rests at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 7 until 8 this evening.

Active pallbearers will be David Borden, John Collins, Frank Claytor, John Driver, Sam Moyer, Robert Thomas and Don Harper.

Those desiring to do so may make memorial contributions to the Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Grottoes, in care of Tammy Claytor (Treasurer) Rt. 1 Grottoes.
