CHURCHVILLE --- David Filmore Via, 74, of 87 Lone Fountain Lane, died on Friday (Oct, 2, 1998) at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1923, at Waynesboro, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Thomas Via Sr.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Crompton of Shenandoah Corp. with 38 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel (Moomau) Via.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Elizabeth Via of Churchville; three brothers, Edgar A., Joseph G. and Granville H. Via, all of Waynesboro; two sisters, Emma Jean Faye Via of Waynesboro and Eleanor V. Dickerson of North Carolina; and three grandchildren, Robert Lee II and Bryan D. Via, and Michelle Dawn Yoder.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday at Henry Funeral Home by the Rev. Janet Knott, with burial at Augusta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Bocock, Dale Wrenn, Michael Miller, Steve Bartley, Donald Cary, Junior Brown, James Breeden and James Carroll Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Greenville United Methodist Church and member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Sunday at Henry Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
