Andersonville was a prison in the south, which held captured Union
[northern] soldiers. It was run by the Confederates. Like a POW camp.
Yes, I've heard of Andersonville. There were prisons for captured
soldiers in the north and the south; they were all brutal places. But
this was DURING the war, not after it. Early in the war, prisoners
were even released and exchanged back to their own side. And can you
cite a source that women and children and babies were locked up? As I
recall, one Confederate woman spy was put under house arrest in the
north, with her children. But that was not in a prison, it was in her
house. DAR is the Daughters of the American Revolution. We are
talking about the Civil War here, an entirely different war.
