Julie Cobb asked for help after her computer was infected with Pretty
Park and copied the list.

I e-mailed a message to her and thought I had copied the list but used
the wrong address. Here is my reply.

Dear Julie

I'm sorry that I am unable to suggest ways to cure your Pretty Park Worm
Virus. So far - knock wood - I haven't had to deal with it.

However Rob Koch had the same problem (see his e-mail as a copy recepient
in the header) and using advice from Dell Technical Support and specific
instructions from McAFee he managed to recover. Perhaps he would be kind
enough to tell you exactly how he managed that feat.

If I understand you correctly you do not/cannot access the Web or even
receive and open attachments.
In other words you have the plainest vanilla version of Juno. Just Plain
e-mail nothing else.If that is the case your suspicion that you were
infected by an e-mail message is interesting.

It is an article of faith that viruses, worms etc. cannot be contracted
through a basic e-mail message i.e. one without attachments. But that
could be in error.

I'm not an expert, but can you recall anything you did shortly before you
noticed that you were infected? Such as: used a floppy disk someone gave
you.

Do you have an anti-virus program such as Norton or McAFee? If you do
you may be able to get help from that quarter. If you don't, you should
get one and update it frequently.

I'm new to the the Virus Discussion list, so I don't know what's gone
before but you may get help from some of the old time listers who have
read your message and mine.

Rob thinks he picked up the infection from an e-mail attachment which
seems the most likely explanation.

However Julie is positive she got it directly from an e-mail message and
for good reason.

Any thoughts on how she might have gotten it since she doesn't receive
attachments?
