That is pretty much a matter for the List Admin to decide, particularly when
it is also being put on other list (which might make it spam, depending on
your definition), but I simply do not think talk of boycots of anything is
any more appropriate on the lists than advertising is.

I think many listowners do feel it is appropriate for lists
connected to genealogy research. It is a great loss for those
who are searching Ellis Island records (I am not, my family came
in earlier). The suggested letter is well put together and I
suspect that many mailing lists will be giving it coverage.
Since this list is sponsored by Ancestry/Rootsweb it is not
entirely out of place here.
