CT/ NY BENJAMIN COLE m RACHEL [maiden name not stated] in Conway,
Franklin Cnty, MA, 10 May 1787. Sol was private in Col SHELDON's
Regiment of Dragoon's. Sol res Halifax, Windham Cnty, VT, when he
enlisted in May, 1780, previous to the Dark Day, at East Windsor, CT,
into Capt HEBB's troops of the 2nd Regiment, CT line, dismounted
Dragoons, commanded by Col ELISHA SHELDON. Transferred to Capt ELIJAH
WADSWORTH's mounted Dragoons, 1782. Sol, age 62, states, 21 Apr 1818, he
has no real estate or personal property except his horse and household
furniture; his res with his wife and 5 children, under age and under his
care. Sol, age 65, 20 May 1820, states occupation was schoolmaster, but
"lately [has] been a preacher in the Baptist denomination though I never
was ordained by any order of Christians," his wife is "upwards of 52
years of age… at times afflicted with rheumatism," and he has 3
children: BETSEY, age 14 , ELIJAH, age 12, and SALLY, age 10. Sol d 2
Jan 1834 of "old age together with a general debility or weakness which
commenced first in his limbs for some time previous to his death and a
fever for some of the last days of his life…" Wid m2 JAMES MCMURPHY,
10 May 1838; RACHEL still res with JAMES MCMURPHY in Humphrey,
Cattaraugus Cnty, NY, 17 Jun 1843. R-6797.
