I live in the house built by Robert Harpurs' son:) The Vermont sufferers spent some time in the town of Harpursfield before moving to Jericho. Jericho is now called Bainbridge:) I live a few minutes from Bainbridge in Harpursville. Levi Redfield and the Russels and the Wilcox/Wilcoxon families lived in Brattleboro but most of the group lived in Guilford , Vermont. They already were acquainted with the area in NY because they had fought there during the Revolutionary War. Bixby and Smith fought at the battle of Saratoga and were given battlefield commissions after the commanders were all killed. Vermont did not give this band up easily. Ethan Allan et al followed the group to Jericho demanding they pay taxes they owed in Vermont. He took a cow from each household as payment for debt of $75. I think my ancestors may have had the last laugh. The cows were infected with TB. My proof is that it was said that TB was the family disease of the Redfields. The evidence is in the book Stones from the Walls of Jericho. I am very proud of my New England Ancestors and have found a great deal of information about them at GenealogyBank. Levi Redfield had written a small book about the Indian Wars .He is my most impressive ancestor. He travelled all around NY and New England as a Singing School Teacher. He also delivered newpapers across the wilderness. He participated in the battle of Providence Rhode Island and several battles in Massachusetts. He was at Saratoga and Ticonderoga. His wife was a Saint:) He was born in 1745 so no Spring Chicken. He died in 1836 in Bainbridge, NY at the home of his son Russell. He was buried in the Pioneer cemetery in Sidney , NY but a flood washed out his grave in the 1860's and he was reburied in the Congregational Cemetery in Otego, NY by his grandson. It took me years to find his grave.Linda

I am a descendant of most of the Vermont Sufferers just 10 miles from Bainbridge , NY where they settled:) I have been ready to move 200 chickens living on pasture in a flood plain for two weeks now. This is very scary stuff and it looks like we wont be done after Katia leaves next week. There is another potential hurricane on a similar path after her. Be strong and vigilant.Linda DabulewiczPs here are a few of my Vermont ancestors. Ebenezer Kelly , Levi Redfield, Samuel Bixby, Alanath Bush, James Elliot, Deacon Israel Smith, Austin Lull, Russell, Wilcox, Mathewson, chaffee, there are more LOL
