Nancy, I don't know if I am one of those on the list of Vans who went to
Iowa, but my Vans went to Lee county, Iowa, and from there to Mills
County, Iowa, and some say, to Missouri, Kansas and nebraska. They were
in Mills County when it was still a part of Michigan/Wisconsin, so it
was very, very early for that part of the state. I have some
information from Lee County - not much, just a marriage - and they must
have left from Ft. Madison fairly soon after arriving. I have searched
for burial records for Vans in Lee County - I understand that many of
the burials were swept away by the river. I found that to be true in
Mills County also - not only burials, but towns that once existed were
wiped out.
