Lucy, We did batten down the hatches, and we're leaving them that way
because stupid Earl still hasn't hit land yet, and in 1989 Hurricane Elaina
was headed right for us, turned just as it got to the land and went on to
the corner of the panhandle of FL, stayed there for a few days and then
turned around and came back and hit us dead on. I had a business on the
beach that I had to evacuate twice for that one, and it did a lot of damage
to my business, with 4 1/2' of water and salt water mud. We left town twice
for that one, but this is still too minimal to worry that much about.
Yes, you did have a good time in Andrew, didn't you? We survived
Hurricane Camille in the northeast quadrant, with very little damage to our
house, but the rest of the area was a mess. Had a babygrand piano on top
of our high drawbridge (the bridge was sitting in sections about 12" apart)
and the mess is undescribable. OUr winds were over 200 mph and we couldn't
even hear the destruction for the wind. However, in Hurricane Frederick my
house suffered $28,000 damage when three trees decided they liked our roof
and came on in to visit. We had a housefull of people because our house
had been so safe in Camille, but I don't think they'll make that mistake
again, and we've never stayed for another one that was over a category 1.
Oh well, it gets the old adrenaline going and we're set for the rest of the
storms that are forming to the point that if they head this way, we'll just
get in the car and head north. Barb
