Subject: AKCHO Monthly Meeting - Nov.29

The Association of King County Historical Organizations (AKCHO) will hold its monthly meeting for November on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005 at 9:30am at the Georgetown Gospel Chapel, 6606 Carleton S., Seattle (206-767-3207). The meeting is hosted this month by the Georgetown Gospel Chapel and Friends of Georgetown History. The program will be "Early Pioneer Stories of Seattle's History" told by Louise 'Jones' Brown. King County's first pioneers established homesteads on the rich, fertile lands bordering the Duwamish River. Louise 'Jones' Brown will share the history of her great grandfather, Jacob Maples, and the contribution that he and other Duwamish Valley pioneers made to the development of Seattle and King County. The program will be highlighted with vintage family oil paintings of historical sites from thr 1850s. (note: see the short article on page 14 of the Nov/Dec SKCGS newsletter about Jacob Maple and his son, Samuel, who are both now buried at Boeing Field.)
Driving directions: from either north or south on I-5, take exit 162 (Corson/Michigan); bear right onto Corson Ave; turn LEFT (east) onto S. Bailey St.; then immediately turn RIGHT(south) onto Carleton Ave S.; arrive at Georgetown Gospel Chapel.
