Have been asked to send this out to everyone - no, I am NOT a member of
the Waterville Chamber of Commerce. ~smile~
The Waterville Museum (Douglas County Museum) is located on highway 2.
Hours are:
11 to 5 daily except Monday --- but is open on Monday if it is a
holiday. If you have a certain family you are interested in -- please
write Mrs. Grande and they will try and get pictures, etc out before you
get there. Mrs. Grande is very knowledgeable of history on the
Waterville Plateau.
The Waterville Historical Hotel - is located across the street from the
Museum. It was built in 1903 by local investors from the Waterville
area. The 2 1/2 story, 33-room hotel is open for business. Almost all
rooms on the first and second floor have been re-furished with an
outside view window, different character and decor, all feature original
fixtures, antique furnishing and a hand made quilt on the bed. (There is
NO elevator or handicap access at this time.) The hotel does not have a
dinning room yet but there are two fine country eating places - easy
walked distance from the hotel. (If you wish to stay over night at the
hotel, I would suggest making a reservation.) The hotel is on the
State and National Historical Registers.
Hope this helps!
