Tafarnaubach is the spelling. Welsh place names means 'little taverns'. A
place just off the modern 'heads of the valleys' road, about 1000 feet above
sea level, with bleak mountains of Brecon Beacons to the north, right on the
northern edge of the South Wales Coalfield with 'coal levels' or drift mines
cut into the hillside and ironstone quarries to supply the iron works in
Rhymney and Tredegar.

There is a marriage possible in Bedwellty registration district, which
included Rhymney,Tredegar and Ebbw Vale, in June quarter of 1879 of a
William EVANS and Elizabeth PHELPS (they are two of the four names on the
same index page, which included two marriages)

Indeed this is the only marriage with these two names on the same page in
South Wales between 1860 and 1885, so seems likely.
