Subject: New Rootsweb Software

As you may know, Rootsweb is installing new software to manage its mailing
lists. The Lincoln list is scheduled to switch to the new software on
Wednesday, August 30.

This process should be seamless for most subscribers, but the new software
requires to changes that you should be aware of.

Most importantly, the new software does not permit subscriptions to both
list mail (single messages) and digest mail (occasional groupings of
messages). During the conversion, therefore, your digest subscription will
be eliminated. If you wish to continue dual subscriptions, you will have to
use a second (and different) email address for a new digest subscription.
Also the digest will look different, so if you like it the way it was before
let me know and I am supposed to be able to switch it back to the way it was
handled before.

Also, I will no longer be notified if list messages to you are bouncing.
The new system keeps track of bounces and automatically unsubscribes those
addresses that return repeated bounce notices.

If for some reason you suspect you may no longer be subscribed to the list
you can go to Rootsweb's Password Central

http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/

and request a list of the mailing lists to which you are subscribed. (It
is a good idea to do this occasionally anyhow, as it is possible to fall off
a list for one reason or another without knowing it.)

If you have problems after the change occurs, please send me a message at my
personal address () and I will investigate.
Please do not post your problem on the list itself.

Charles
