I have found no connection to the following Walker family but thought
I should pass the info on to the List for someone else.
The following is from the book "History of Walker County Alabama"
by John Martin Dombhart page 204.
"Samuel Walker, a native of County Durham, England was born in the
early 1790's. He came to America when quite a young man, and
eventually settled in Georgia, where he met and married Nancy Taylor
Brackett, who was born October 2, 1796, a cousin of Zachary Taylor,
the twelfth President of the United States. Shortly after, the young
couple moved into Alabama and, it is thought, settled in the
Tennessee Valley, probably in Madison County, in or near Huntsville.
In later years he removed to Walker County, probably during the
1840's, and settled near Dora, where most of his children married
into the old pioneer families of this section. It is not known when
or where Samual Walker died, but his wife, Nancy, died near Dora on
August 16, 1870, and is buried in the Friendship Graveyard.
Children: Thomas Walker, who moved west before the Civil War; Amos
B. Walker; William F. Walker; Samual Walker; James R. Walker; Martha
Walker, who married first, Peter A. Morgan and second, James Bryant;
Julia Walker, who married, first, William Legrand and second,
William Simms; and Mary Walker, who died a spinster."
There is more information in the Dombhart book regarding the
descendants of Samuel Walker.
