Subject: [WALL] Wright Wall and family
Date: Sun, 29 Oct 2000 12:59:16 -0900
Requesting information on anyone who may have information on the various
Wright Wall families of Marion District SC and Alabama.
I have the following.
1 Wright Wall 1754 - 1820
.. +Mary Rebecca Rice
........ 2 Wright Wall, Jr. - 1840
............ +Mary Bradley
1775, Listed in Early Pee Dee Settlers 1775, Location St. Davids Parish,
Revolutionary Service in Marions, Brigade
February 20, 1776. The following commissions were made out, signed and
dated as here entered, for officers in Col. Powells Regiment of Militia,
St. David's Parish.
Volunteer Corps. 2nd Lt. Wright Wall
April 6, 1788, 140 ac in Georgetown District on the NE side of Great PeeDee
on Cypress Creek Bay, bounded by a line running on the SE part by Wright
Wall's land and other sides vacant
Wright Wall, 1790, South Carolina, Georgetown District, 02-03-03-00-00
Wright Wall is HOH (Head of House) in Prince George Parish, Georgetown
District, South Carolina. There are 2 males age 16 or older, 3 males under
16 and 3 females listed as living in this household for a total of 6-7
children.
Wright (Sr.) Wall, 1800 South Carolina, Liberty Co, 02101-00201
Wright Wall listed here has 2 male children 10-16 years of age, 1 male
child 16-26 years of age, and 2 female children 16-26. Both Wright Wall
and his wife are listed as 45 years of age or older. This would give
Wright Wall an estimated date of birth as 1750 or earlier.
Conveyed September 23, 1800, James Alexander conveyed 100 ac to Wright Wall
for 20L sterling, land formerly granted to Jacob Blocker Sr., situated on
the SW side of Little PeeDee on Reedy Creek bounded on all sides by vacant
land. This tract of land was later conveyed by Wright Wall to Thomas Cannon
on October 2, 1802. Both, Wright Wall and Rebeccah Wall signed this deed.
This would make these land transactions very likely those of the elder
Wright Wall.
4. Wright Wall, 1810 South Carolina, Beaufort Co, P. 110, St. Peter
To Wright Wall 286 ac in Beaufort District on the waters of Great Swamp,
bounded SW on Harpers Land, NW on vacant land, NE on James Oglesby land and
SE on vacant land. Conveyed May 6, 1803. (This would explain a move to
Beaufort District)
According to The History of Gapway Baptist Church and Wright Wall
manuscript, The Wright Wall family were member of Gapway Baptist Church
which was organized in 1775. The first messangers to the Charleston
Association were David Davis, Wright Wall and David Owens. Wright Wall was
a messenger to the Association in 1794, 1795, 1800 and 1802.
Wright Wall and several unidentified members of his family are buried on
property that was his homeplace. A marker erected at his gravesite
reads. Wright Wall (Jr) South Carolina, 2nd Lt. Col. G G Powell's SC
Militia, Revolutionary War 1754-1825. (Note that this says Wright Wall
Jr., rather than Sr., however, later records list a Wright Wall Jr., in SC
after 1825. This with other information suggests there were 3 Wright Walls. )
So, It would appear that Wright Wall Sr., died in SC and did not go to AL.
Descendants of Wright Wall, Jr.
1 Wright Wall, Jr. - 1840
.. +Mary Bradley
........ 2 John Wall - 1829
........ 2 Isaiah Wall 1800 -
............ +Jinsey Jane Keefe - 1850
........ *2nd Wife of Isaiah Wall:
............ +Amanda Gasque 1822 -
........ 2 James Wall 1800 - 1856
........ 2 Hugh Giles Wall 1802 - 1881
............ +Sarah M. Davis 1814 - 1836
........ *2nd Wife of Hugh Giles Wall:
............ +Sarah A. Charolette Palmer - 1845
........ *3rd Wife of Hugh Giles Wall:
............ +Mary Elizabeth Eagerton 1820 -
........ 2 Lawson G. Wall 1810 - 1847
........ 2 Washington B. Wall 1813 - 1856
............ +Mary S. Vaught 1828 -
Wright Wall is not found in further census records for the state of South
Carolina. On February 6, 1840, Hugh Giles Wall qualified as administrator
of the estate of Wright Wall, dec'd (died intestate) "late of Britton's Neck"
Children named included Hugh G Wall, Isaiah Wall, James Wall, Washington
Wall and Lawson G Wall.
(Note that the time of death for THIS Wright Wall JR is 1840 and he did in
fact die in Marion District SC. So., it was not this Wright Wall Jr.,
buried on the homeplace, nor was it this Wright Wall Jr., that went to
Alabama.....so,
My belief is that there was a brother to Wright Wall Sr., or Jr., that went
to Alabama (thereby being 3 of them)
Thomas Wall also listed in Marion District SC and the same age as the elder
Wright Wall Sr., was most likely a brother to this Wright Wall Sr., born
circa 1755.
I would sure love to hear from folks from this line.
Thanks
Kathy
