I know we have some ladies on this list who were on the first voyage of the
Argentina in January 1946.

I've been re-examining the passenger list for that voyage, and there are
various abbreviations which I need some help with. I'd be very grateful if
you Argentina passengers could please make yourselves known to me...

Meanwhile, here are a few questions which you may know the answers to:

1. You are all on the list divided into sections from 1a to 1f.

Did you know that? Does that make sense to you? They are alphabetical
sections, and for example section 1a covers the names from ADAMS to
CATANESE.

Joan STUBBS (who you all know well from her messages to the list) is in
section 1f and that covers the names through to Z.

Do you know if there was any significance to those sections, and why they
were used? Were you ever 'organised' into those sections?

2. You are all further divided into sections on the passenger list, and
those sections are numbered (for example) 00321; 00322, 00323 and so on...

In 00321 there are only 7 people including children.
In 00322 there are 15
In 00323 there are 11

What are those numbers? Could they be cabin numbers? Do they mean anything
to you?

3. Here's an obvious one I think but I'd like your confirmation.

You each had a number. This was recorded as your 'P.P.' number. Please can
you confirm what PP was?

4. Finally a sensitive question - and I am not going to tell you this lady's
surname out of respect for her privacy, but your answer to this question
could help me understand a particular 'hieroglyphic' which appears next to
her name and that of some others - do you recall a lady in your group named
Peggy, who had a four and a half month old baby named Barbara, and who was
pregnant again? If you do recall this, I should be very grateful to know as
it will help me understand what I am reading. I don't need to know anything
else about this lady, I just need to know what the code means next to her
name (and that of some others). I'd be glad if you could make sure that you
don't accidentally mention her name on the list!

I should be really grateful if you could help me out! If any of you would
like a copy of the passenger list showing your name, and the front page with
the fancy cover, please contact me as I have the list booked out to me for a
few days.
