My Mom (Grace Jones Edington) came over on the Uruguay the first week of
April 1946, She lived in Kingston St. Mary's at the time. She was evacuated
there during. My Dad was in the Army, stationed at Hestercombe House.
My husband and I had the opportunity to go there last year and see
Hestercombe House and see the cottage the my Mom lived in, in fact it is
still being used. The Swan Inn is a little pub that my mom worked at when she
was 16, cleaning it up. We had lunch there. My Mom still can remember
just about everything of her trip over here. Unfortunately my dad is now in a
nursing home with Alzheimer's and can remember nothing, but she is still
devoted to him as she goes to see him and stays all day 3 times a week.
They were married 58 years this past September. Her stories about her life
in England and her trip are something that family can listen to all the time
and never get tired of them. She was also at the Tamworth camp before she
left.
I eventually want to write a book about the Warbrides and put stories in
there from of the expperiences. I would like to include any that you have if
you all do not mind me using them and of course any one that submits a
story will get a copy of the book free. I am not sure how long it will take
but will keep you all informed of the progress.

(Proud to be a Warbrides daughter)
