Bev. When you have lived as long as we War Brides have, is it any surprise
that we have so many memories. I note that the latest subject is "
Smells." One of my favourite memories is of lilacs after the rain. When I
was young as I walked to work in England my walk took me through a short
lane lined with lilacs. How I loved the perfume of those lilacs When we
owned a cottage on the Bruce Peninsula we discovered a back road boasting
many old lilac bushes, no doubt planted by the early settlers in that area.
I would pray for rain when I knew the lilacs were in bloom, hoping to
recapture the perfume I had enjoyed in my youth. Smells can certainly
transport us back in time and to another place. Ivy
