I have been watching this thread with interest but before joining waited
for my father to visit to ask him.

My father (an RCAF officer) was repatriated in May 1945. We (my mother,
younger sister and I) did not join him until travelling to Canada on HMS
Sythia in February/March of 1946.

My father's recollection is that he received a letter from my mother
telling him when we would be arriving; however, he did say that he might
well have received some official notice of our travel arrangements.
