My mother-in-law is from the "other" side - German. She has a photo of her
standing between 2 apartment buildings. It was taken on her 16th birthday.
According to her, the next day the buildings were rubble. Her father was a
police man, and one day as he was walking home after his shift and a
firetruck stopped for directions to the fire. Not knowing whether his
building was on fire or not (it was), he directed them to his building.
That action saved it. Don't know what happened to the building that they
were supposed to get to. Think that there were just too many to help. The
Allied bombing was rather heavy by the end of the war.

Took her back to Nurenburg 2 years ago, and all the apratment buildings have
been completely rebuilt. From the outside, they look like they used to but
better - a fresh coat of paint was recently put on them.

Thank you for your comments, I enjoy reading them. Susi is in mid phase
Alzheimer's, so the stories are not forth coming anymore.
