SOUTHAM
This small market town lies about ten miles north east of Warwick on the
main road to Daventry and Northampton. The Royal Mail coaches from Warwick
to London would stop at Southam which has some interesting old coaching
inns. Charles I slept there two days before the battle of Edgehill. A hiring
fair was held at various intervals, and men seeking employment would stand
in the market place with symbols of their trades displayed in their hats, or
carrying some tool of their trade.

Subject: [WAR] Roman Catholic Church at Southam
> The Roman Catholic Church at Southam (Our Lady and St. Wulstan) was formed
in 1925. I have several marriages haven taken place in Southam prior to this
date from a family which was predominantly Catholic but the church informs
me that the marriages could not have taken place at the Catholic church. I
know they were not married at the C of E Church, St. James, so where were
they??? Does anyone know?? They were also not at the Congregationalist
Church either.
> I have found the marriages in the GRO indexes and the registration
district is shown as Southam - so where else could they be without having to
apply to GRO (as I have 12 marriages to obtain)
> Can anyone help???
