Subject: [WASHINGTON-L] Lillian (Clemans) Merchant
Date: Mon, 7 Dec 1998 23:37:30 EST
I am researching my greatgrandmother Lillian Clemans Merchant. She was born
March 09, 1875 in Blanca, Arkansas. She settled in Clarkston, Asotin Co.,
Washington with her parents William and Isobel Clemans. William and Isobel
were founders of Asotin County. They should be easy to research but it is
not. Lillian is also hard to track although she had a full and public life.
She was the superintendent of schools in Washington State. I don't know
exactly where. Her husband Henry Robert Merchant, Sr. was also very famous in
the community but records have been hard to come by. I do know that there is a
Museum that the Merchants paid for and my ggrandfather started Merchant
Funeral homes in Clarkston.
If anyone has any way of finding any records on the following let me know:
William Clemans Merchant b June 02, 1910 d July 19, 1970 Clarkston, WA
Lillian Clemans Merchant b March 09, 1875 Blanca, AR d November 20, 1953
Clarkston, WA
Henry Robert Merchant b January 11, 1875 Marinette, WI d May 26, 1954
Clarkston, WA
William J. Clemans b possibly in Georgia moved to Clarkston but left for AZ at
some point
Isobel Clemans b possibly in Arkansas moved to Clarkston but left for AZ at
some point
Thank you,
Jill M. Cordone
