I looked in the Washington death records and found that Wayne Archie died 7 April 1954 in Seattle. Now you can order the Seattle newspapers on micro-film through your local public library via inter-library loan. I would recommend the Seattle P.I. although it may not have obituaries unless the person was a prominent citizen. I should think a policeman would possible be mentioned,though. Good luck, Clyde
