Subject: [WASPOKANE] THELMA JACKSON KOWALSKI of Spokane [QA] in 1960s
Date: Sat, 22 Dec 2001 18:29:56 -0600

In response to message, earlier today, from List Dad Charles, I wish to make my FIRST posting to
this List.

A Mrs Thelma Jackson Kowalski, 1644 South Maple Blvd [Spokane], sent a series if neatly-typed
letters to our cousin Mrs Zethyl Gates [of Loveland, CO] in 1966. Thelma was a cousin of my mom
[Printha Jackson Drake, 1893-1943, KS-CA]. From a photocopy of a picture, ?made at Minneapolis,
Ottawa Co, KS ca 1910, Thelma is shown to be ca 8-9-10 yrs old; I think she was born ca 1900, ?KS.

Her parents: Eunice Jackson [30 Dec 1876 to 2 Dec 1965] and Carleton Jackson [23 Feb 1868 to
22 Apr 1956?, are buried in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa Co, KS.

I know nothing about her husband, Mr Kowalski, other than when my folks and I were living at Chico,
Butte Co, CA, in 1930s, the Kowalskis visited us when my GDad Jackson was visiting from CO.

I have subscribed to a Kowalski List, but as there is the Maple Blvd address, I have asked the
Spokane List first. Cousin Thelma, her husband, must be gone now; if living they could be 100 or so.
My hope in contacting this List is that I might get some information about dates-of-deaths, where
buried, obits or other Kowalskis in your area. I do not think they had children, but who knows??

Thelma was a family-historian and in her letters are most of the information we have about the
Jacksonsof VA/WVa [Jackson CO], history of my GGParents Hezekiah and Mariah Jane Jackson and
their moving their large family from Ravenswood area [WVa] to Ottawa CO, KS; there My GDad married a Crosby girl and my mom and her sibs were born. In the photocopy of the cousins are many Crosbys, ca 1910. As my Jacksons were part-Indian I have wondered if the move to KS, ca 1880,
was a part of Indian Removals [to KS].

I make this posting from southwestern Manitoba; we have been in Canada over 40 years; I was trained to be a scientist and in the early 1960s thats where the GOOD salary was... We are having now, at last, some snow and the temps are good. Best to subscribers to List; hope Mr Hansen will get a
good turnout to his plea... Sincerely, Bob Drake

PS: The Crosby cousins in KS were of a line that was in Maine in 1700s; if there are any of that
Crosby line around Spokane, I welcome contact; late Bing was supposedly of that line, but in the
snailmail-days I never had an answer when I wrote a certain Crosby Library...May GUniv have good 2002s as well...
