My experience with passenger lists, albeit not into Australia, is that
"native county" or "native of" etc was often taken to mean where they
LAST lived before getting on the boat... hence why many Irish list Cork
or Queenstown as place of origin as they might have spent some time
there before getting on the ship to US or wherever. So if you have good
reliable info on where he was born, vs. where he left from I would
investigate both, but keep an open mind that he _probably_ was born
where you have that info, but then moved for some reason to the other
location sometime before he got on the ship.
